Last month, some of my all-time favorite calligraphy work was featured alongside some other incredible wedding vendors on Dear Gray Magazine! There is something magical when a team of talented vendors comes together for a styled photo shoot, and this summer wedding inspiration was no different! Amanda Adams Photography and Alyssa from Ginger & Blooms coordinated to bring the citrus color palette to life with lots of different wedding details. One reason I love styled photo shoots is that I always get to create some really unique calligraphy pieces, and this shoot did not disappoint! You’ll see a fabric calligraphy banner, hand torn calligraphy wedding invitation suite, watercolor calligraphy placecards, and my favorite piece – calligraphy on a cake! And wait until you see the absolutely gorgeous tablescape complete with calligraphy menus and a calligraphy table number! The venue was Strong Mansion at Sugarloaf Mountain and it was seriously the perfect backdrop for all of the textures and details that Amanda captured so perfectly. You can see the full wedding feature on Dear Gray Magazine!

I am so excited to be launching my blog here on Allison Dee Calligraphy! You’ll be able to follow along here and see some of my favorite calligraphy pieces that I create for weddings, engagements, anniversaries, and other special events! You can learn more about me, the calligrapher behind Allison Dee Calligraphy on my About Me page, but I’m going to use my first blog post to talk about one of my favorite wedding calligraphy trends, wooden calligraphy signs!
Having a calligraphy sign near the entrance to your wedding ceremony or reception is the perfect way to both direct guests where to go as well as set the tone of your wedding from the moment they arrive at your venue! A wooden calligraphy sign can fit with many different wedding colors and themes, and can range from casual to elegant because you can customize it to fit your wedding style by stain color, size, and handlettering style. Your florist can add some pretty blooms that coordinate with your wedding bouquet or you can have a larger sign that welcomes wedding guests in the parking lot. You can include the bride and groom’s names and wedding date or just use a meaningful quote or phrase. A calligraphy sign can even be used during portraits of the bride and groom! But I think the best part of having a wooden calligraphy sign is that it also turns into a beautiful heirloom to keep in your home for years to come after the wedding day. Here are a few of my favorite wooden calligraphy signs!
As you can see, wooden calligraphy signs can fill many different roles on your wedding day. I love working with brides to create meaningful wedding pieces, so I’d love to hear from you if you have ideas for your own custom calligraphy sign!
